ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS

Moroccan rugs date back centuries. These rugs, once used for protection against cold weather, are hand woven in several regions of Morocco. Many of our rug artisans hail from the Atlas Mountains where they use the wool of a special breed of sheep that roams the rugged landscape.

The art of carpet weaving is mainly female and influenced by the legends of the Berber tribes. Traditionally, carpets were made solely for personal use. This means that every symbol, motif and pattern means something special to the weaver – perhaps a wish for fertility, the celebration of a marriage or birth, or an ode to the landscape of a particular region.

THE THREE B'S OF MOROCCAN RUGS

Beni Ourain Rugs

Our Beni Ouarain carpets are fabulously thick yet so soft and sumptuous. Chic with its neutrality of color and Berber motifs, Beni Ouarain vintage rugs are ideal for contemporary interiors. The irony about these carpets is that although they might have legions of fans, if you have one, he is really all yours. This is because no two Beni Ourain rugs are alike. Each is made by hand -- no mass production, no factories, no Ikea catalogue. Here are some of our favorites below.

Boucherouite Rugs

The New York Times said that Boucherouite rugs "seem more suitable for framing than trampling underfoot". With their intricate designs and artisan precision, we tend to agree! Boucherouite, also known as the Moroccan Rag Rug, are one-of-a kind as they interweave vintage recycled fabric rugs. Made by tribal Berber women, these carpets can be placed anywhere in your home to create a fun and practical ambiance. Here's a few of our favorites below.

Berber Kilim Rugs

Our kilims combine Berber motifs and designs, adding a splendid touch of texture to your home. We carry a wide selection of traditional but bold and modern kilims. They can be used as tribal rugs, decorative tapestries or sofa covers. They are hand woven by skilled women Moroccan artisans. Explore a few of our eye catching kilims below!
